Samsung announces Galaxy S4 Mini

Samsung has announced its compact version of the Galaxy S4, the Galaxy S4 mini.

The S4 mini comes with a 4.3 inch Super Amoled display, as opposed to the full sized S4's 5-inch screen, and at 107g is 23 grams lighter than the S4.
For all intents and purposes, the mini is the same phone as the S4, but with slightly less oomph. For example, its rear- and front-facing cameras are 8 megapixels and 1.9 megapixels respectively, as opposed to the S4's 13- and 2-megapixel cameras.

A leak earlier in May fuelled rumours of an impending announcement of the S4 mini -- Samsung has released compact models of all its S series of smartphones. The official confirmation on 30 May comes just days after Apple CEO Tim Cook declined to shut the door on iPhone minis, nanos, or other variations in future.

"Well, we haven't [launched variations of the iPhone] so far, that doesn't shut off the future," he said at the D11 conference.
Running on the latest 4.2.2 Jelly Bean operating system, and with a 1.7GHZ dual core processor, the S4 mini is loaded with many of the same bells and whistles as the S4.

It will be available in 4G and 3G, but which of these versions will be available in the UK is as yet unknown.
The UK shipping date has not been confirmed.
